About this project

Hi, I’m Bart.
In 2020 I fell ill with Covid. Like many others, the infection itself was only the beginning — what followed was a long stretch of struggling with food. Meals that had always been fine suddenly weren’t, and it took a long time to understand why.
When I went looking for answers, I couldn’t find any generic histamine tolerance list online that actually worked for me. The lists that existed contradicted each other, were incomplete, or weren’t practical for day-to-day cooking and shopping.
So I built my own. That became histaminevoeding.nl and histaminefoodlist.com: a catalog of ingredients with histamine levels, personal tolerance lists you can adapt to your own body, and low-histamine recipes.
A passion project — built to be shared
This is a passion project. I’m open to working with others on it — whether that’s improving the data, translating, research, or building new features.
I’m also thrilled when people use the data to build their own tools. That’s exactly why there is a free developer API: as long as it helps others who struggle with food as an after-effect of an auto-immune or post-viral disease, build away.
